How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring relaxed state, similar to the experience of daydreaming. You will be aware of your surroundings, able to open your eyes and speak or move if you want to. You will remain in control - nobody can hypnotise you against your will or ‘make you’ do anything.
Most of our day is spent in ‘thinking mode,’ where our conscious mind processes information logically. When we daydream, are absorbed in a good book or a creative activity, we are using our unconscious mind; our emotional side. When we experience conflict between these parts we may attempt to ‘override’ our feelings and apply ‘reason’ but ultimately our emotions always control our actions. This is why making changes or breaking old patterns simply by 'deciding' to, can be difficult.
When you are happily relaxed in hypnosis, I am able to communicate with your unconscious (subconscious) mind to help you release upsetting emotions and accept positive suggestions.
How NLP works
NLP is a personal development system. It is often described in complex terms, but is simply about the way we communicate with ourselves and others. We can often use negative language when we talk with ourselves in our heads or describe ourselves to others. We may make negative assumptions or limiting decisions about what we can or can't or should or shouldn't do. By changing the language we use about ourselves and challenging negative beliefs we have, big changes are possible.
Compared to hypnosis, NLP 'interventions' are often done at a rapid pace, faster than the conscious mind can process, so the unconscious mind makes changes at a deep level.
